Nap drama

Fell asleep standing up. A new one.

Naps are elusive around here. Sometimes I can get them to sleep by putting in a movie and setting them up. About 10 minutes into it they conk out, or don't.

On Thursday and Friday I actually got naps because of a recently developed fear of witches. Stay with me here. On Wednesday night, Greg had a meeting and I was tired so before gearing up for bedtime we all laid in my bed and I told them stories. One of the stories was about Princess Lucy and Princess Harper, but when I inserted a witch into the tale, I was shut down. It sounds mean to talk about witches in stories, but they are already out there. In Dora. In the Princess movies. In Super Why (PBS programming teaching preschoolers to read). They have never been scared of the witches.

But then on Thursday at nap time they were wearing their swim diapers and pretending to be fishes instead of sleeping. I said something that reminded them of a witch and they whipped them off and were freaking out. They wouldnt' leave me. So I used this to get them to nap in the guest bed. They did it on Friday too. Today, they started off in their little beds, but then Lucy was talking about a "really, really mean witch" and got Harper going.

Tough decision - rested neurotic children or psychologically sound exhausted chidlren? I tried shutting it down by saying that witches were pretend, but I am not sure Harper believed me. Instead she went and napped with Greg while they watched golf. I'm pretty sure there aren't any witches on the PGA.

Sick ward

This is what you get for a few minute of silence. Complete upending of their room, and the creation of some type of sick ward or orphanage. All their "friends" have a blanket and is nicely tucked in, and there are some back up tights and socks just in case they run out of blankies.

It sort of reminds me of the tube during the blitz.

This is a frequent game, though its usually on a smaller scale and in the hall. This time, Lucy added the touch of putting halloween socks on her hands.

My teeth kinda dirty

I got them Dora toothbrushes from Target yesterday. Now they are obsessed with dental hygiene. They are on their third toothbrushing session of the day. Every once in a while Lucy will just say, "my teeth kind of dirty" and they'll start a session.

Don't talk to Jesus!

Last night,I departed for bible study shortly after bedtime. They took a short nap yesterday which means, instead of conking out at 7, they linger and poke their heads out until 8. Lucy first said, "Mommy, don't go see Jesus!" And I thought, I'm not quite ready to SEE Him yet but said we were going to talk about him, to which he said, "No Mommy! Don't go talk to Jesus!"

Lucy also recently dressed up in high heels, bracelets and a purse and said "Bye! I'm goint o sewing class!"

I'm ready to have a break from night classes for a while. Its kind of exhausting and makes it more difficult to get all the normal stuff done (laundry, cleaning, list making) around here.
