You snooze you lose

A new pair of (eBay)shoes arrived today and Harper was up from her nap to try them on.

Lucy noticed the new item immediately upon awakening from her nap and insisted "My try on." Do I say "try on" that much? Sheesh.

My try on.

Someone was happy she wasn't napping.

Floaters

I grabbed the camera because Lucy looked so adorable in the tub last night.

Then things took a turn for the worse...

Much worse...

Sister thinks that's funny.

Preschool aftermath

Preschool is messy. They come home with paint on their clothes, hair, faces. Flour coating on their legs. Glue on their hands. And glitter. Which usually ends up all over me as well. Maybe people think I've been out clubbing.

Escape

I was reading about how one of the Freas triplets is escaping from her crib and thinking "oh poor thing" about Momma Freas. Teach me. Lucy is now able to escape out the pak n play where she takes her afternoon nap. Crib is not far behind. Thankfully, I have crib tents in my back pocket.

Morning Jewelry

Lucy insisted on this necklace for her and the bracelet for Harper. Before she would drink her milk and watch Elmo while I make breakfast in the a.m.

Indian Princesses

Daddy and the girls made these. And then to be really politically correct we taught them the ole ah yah yah yah with the hand over the mouth.

No Shoes Mommy

Yesterday Harper got up at about 2, so I have my normal hour to kill before her sister decides to get up. Sidenote: There have been several times I went to peak in on Lucy after 3 hours of napping and she just lies there sucking her thumb w/ her eyes open? Does she need more "me" time than most toddlers?

So I take Harper to check my email - eBay searches come in in the p.m. and I click on some shoes. She has had enough. "No shoes, Mommy." Man. sold. out.

Happy Birthday Henry!

Cousin Henry turned 4 yesterday.

Looked luck a fun party with a bounce house and everything. Wow. Last time I saw him he was 2! Much overdue trip must be planned soon.

Baby of the Day

This evening Greg pointed out a picture of one of the girls and said "awww, isn't she such a sweetie?" Yes, she is. What about her sister? Crickets.

We love both our precious daughters. They each have their own personalities and are amazing us with their humor and imagination and how quickly they learn. One is just a little bit more easygoing right now. And right now is key. There have been times when she was the baby you would rather get a beer with.

So, what is the deal? I think the sister in question is a little more socially advanced shall we say. Getting into the two-year old behavior a little faster. Throwing tantrums if you try to change her dirty shirt. Or give her the cup with the yellow (not the purple) lid. Pouting, whining, crying and generally testing us while sister 2 sits back and chuckles. At least we'll be ready for round 2, right?

So, MOMs, 'fess up. Do you award Baby of the Day at your house?

Toys are teaching my children

We got a leapfrog alphabet toy for their 1st birthday. It sings the alphabet and you can also put the letters in the toy and press to hear the sound the letter makes. Lucy is playing the alphabet and singing along. Kind of like this, A...G...K...P....S

15 years outside the target market

Today I went shopping at Forever 21 in the Mall of Disposable Clothing. The reason was to seek an outfit for a jumpsuit party later this month, but I ended up buying (cough)other stuff. But I had to wonder should I be buying clothing for just-past-teenagers? What did the salespeople think, especially when I brought the girls in to exchange an item later that afternoon? 15 years from now I might be back there with them shopping again.

OCD

The girls are starting to display some OCD tendencies.

Lucy has to be covered with a particular blanket before she goes to sleep. Harper has to touch every column or lamp as we walk through a shopping center. Shoes on. Shoes off. One has to wear a hat. Or a swimsuit. Or the Elmo pajamas. Its exhausting keeping up with the little tyrants.

I hate it

when the girls don't feel well. Harper was woke several times last night, fussy. Daddy actually kindly took over visitation duty, but when she woke this a.m. she was hot. I see the tylenol on the changing table. Uh oh. Yep. 100.8. Plus, she has had some intermittent diarrhea over the last week. I thought it was just because she will only eat fruit.

Anyway, took her to the doctor. She has a red throat, which the doctor thinks is associated with the fever. She also is getting her canines in and putting her hands in her mouth a lot, which is probably where she picked up the bug to begin with.

Poor thing has been grouchy and snuggly all day. She wouldn't eat breakfast or lunch and was actually asking me to put her down for a nap. I gave her a dose of tylenol and teething tablets and complied. Lucy is cheerfully eating a pudding and watching Teletubbies. She only weight 19 3/4 lbs. Doctor didn't seem overly concerned, but their trajectory puts them as little shrimpy adults. I did get a list of "high calorie foods". Like we all don't know this. Its the stuff that tastes good.

Happy Happy

Yesterday was Gus' 3rd birthday party. Gus is a favorite friend. We see him a lot and he is and older guy. He celebrated with an "under the sea" party. Harper and Lucy went as mermaids. O.k. I'm not that crafty, but Gus' Momma is. There was a pin the tail on the whale game, a fishing game, decorate your sand pail activity and outdoor water games. Plus, she made a homemade Nemo/fish cake that I would never have been able to accomplish. She really upped the ante for the girls' party in September

The girls had a great time. Before we got there we practiced singing happy birthday. This morning, when I offered them a little coffee cake for a snack Lucy started singing "Happy Happy".

Future ravers?

An unexpected gift from BB was a big hit. These light up spin wands were especially fun this a.m. in the kitchen darkened by the morning rain. Thanks BB!

Potty "training"

A Mommy friend asked me what we're doing for potty training. Basically it is this. I have potties. I ask the girls if they want to use the potty. They inevitably answer no. We read books about going on the potty and I set a good example by doing all my business in the potty. But I'm not pushing it. So I was a little surprised today to hear my (briefly diaperless) daughters yelling "poopy!" from the bathroom.

Harper had runny poo down her leg and on her sandal and was screaming (appropriate reaction as far as I'm concerned). And on the bathroom rug. Again, reminding me of a nervous cocker spaniel.

But then I look down and see turds of an entirely different consistency in the potty. Who did it? Was the accident just Harper's late stage poo of which most made it into the potty, or did Lucy do it? Noone would claim it. Lucy did say "Harper" but based on forensics I would have to say it was Lucy.

I'm glad they are taking the initiative, but I spent the next 15 minutes cleaning the tub, and shoes and the floor, and putting rugs in the laundry.

Why Caca is so popular

Here are some pictures she took of recent activities she did with the girls.

From the archives...

Here is a picture that Jessica took on the girls 1st birthday. We went to Phil's Ice House/Amy's Ice Cream.

Dayschool

I neglected to take pictures today. Maybe Momma Freas did. Today's topic was "friends and helping". The girls didn't mind at all when I dropped them off and headed off for an ICED latte (have I mentioned its been 97 degrees?). Jessica says the attentions spans are getting longer as they get used to the school thang. Harper and Lucy loved squishing their toes in the rice - today's sensory activity.

Meanwhile, I went to Target. Again. Casualty of shopping with toddlers - I always forget some essential item or buy something "wrong". Yesterday I did both. Forgot the watch I went to get. This is my third Ironman watch since December. I am running through these things like they are going out of style. And I bought a skirt that friend Ruthie pointed out was actually a dress, and incredibly see through.

I tried to find some dress up clothes or dress up dolls while I was there. I thought this might stem the bathing suit hoarding/putting on that Lucy keeps doing, but the only thing they has was (guess) princess dresses. Wait. They did have toddler wedding dresses. Complete with boquet and veil accessories. Are you kidding me? This makes the princess dresses look progressive.

Instead, I ended up with Mr. Potato Head Jumbo Pack.

Silence is not always golden

Sometimes silence finds the markers and writes on its face and arms.

Time for a bigger pool

They both want to bring their boats in at the same time. With the 2 inches of water.

First ice cream cones

Lucy was making me crazy because she was (in typical fashion) trying to save/hoard hers.
